Η ΘΕΑ ΕΚΑΤΗ
The name of the Goddess is etymologically derived from the adverb "ΕΚAΣ-Ekas" [far away], whence "ΕΚΑΘΕΝ-Ekathen" [from afar].
In the Liddell & Scott Dictionary it is defined as far-reaching [from "expiring", ie. ending, reaching, having as a limit].
A etymology is also that from "ΕΚΑΤΕΡΟΣ-Ekateros" [each of two, but not together but separately, ie. the opposite of "both"]. In this case the dual bond of the Goddess with the world of the living and the world of the dead is emphasized.
